Particle-Based Materials Symposium 2026

The next iteration of the Particle-Based Materials Symposium will take place at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Duisburg Campus, from October 7-8, 2026.

The Particle-Based Materials Symposium was initiated in 2016 with the aim of bringing together scientists and engineers from different communities that all share the goal of creating functionality in materials using particles. Since then, the symposium takes place as a yearly meeting with talks covering the synthesis, processing and materials integration of particles into thin films, bulk matrices, fibers, or other geometries. With this focus, the symposium successfully fills the gap between fundamental research of colloid science and synthesis of functional nanoparticles and the applications of these nanostructures in the context of materials science and engineering. Accordingly, contributions from the fields of nanoparticles and nanostructured materials, colloids, self-assembly and functional structured materials are welcome. The special focus of this year's symposium will be on “Processing of functional nanoparticles into higher-order structures”.

Scope

The Particle Based Materials Symposium aims to bring together scientists and engineers from diverse research communities working with particles and particle-based materials.

The symposium focuses on the design, synthesis, processing, and integration of particles into functional materials, including:

  • Thin films
  • Bulk materials and matrices
  • Fibers and composites
  • Structured and hybrid materials

By combining these approaches, PBM provides a forum to discuss the latest developments and future perspectives in particle-based materials research.

Focus of PBM 2026

The theme of the PBM 2026 Anniversary Symposium highlights the progress achieved over the past decade and explores future directions in the field.

Planned sessions will focus on key aspects of particle design and particle-based materials, including:

  • Particle Synthesis and Formulation
  • Modeling, Simulations, and Data-Driven Design
  • Functional Properties and Applications
  • Analysis and Characterization
     

Contributions (oral and poster) from researchers at all levels are highly appreciated. Slots for oral contributions will be selected by the scientific committee on the basis of the originality of the research, the level of results indicated in the abstract, and the relevance for the field of particle-based materials.

Abstract submission and registration will start from 15th March 2026 to 30th June 2026.
